TALKWORKS can help adults, age 18+, living in Devon (outside Plymouth) with bulimia nervosa or binge eating disorder. Devon’s NHS talking therapies service has therapists who can work with individuals experiencing symptoms of bulimia or binge-eating disorder to help them to develop a healthier relationship with food and their emotions. The Community Eating Disorders Service can help with moderate to severe eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia and an eating disorder not otherwise specified (ENDOS).
TALKWORKS and CEDs work closely together as part of the First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders (FREED) pathway, to improve access to psychological therapies for adults age 18-25. TALKWORKS has FREED champions within the service, who offer monthly assessment appointments specifically for patients eligible for FREED.
Patients can self-refer to TALKWORKS online or by calling 0300 555 3344. GPs and healthcare professionals can also make referrals on the patient’s behalf by completing TALKWORKS’ healthcare professional referral form. For guidance on making a referral for a patient, please review the TALKWORKS decision tree. In order to access CEDs, patients must be referred through their GP. Family members who are concerned about a loved one with an eating disorder can access support through FEAST (Families Empowered and Supporting Treatment of Eating Disorders).
